How long can you keep wearing eyelash extensions?

If you or your technician ever worry about the health of your natural eyelashes, you may need a break. However, if the extensions applied are the right length and thickness for your natural eyelashes, you've gently cleaned them with an oil-free cleanser and an eyelash shampoo, there's no reason you can't keep using extensions. In fact, a large proportion of our customers here have been using eyelashes continuously for 5 to 10 years without any problems. If you start to take extra care when cleaning eye makeup (which can block hair follicles and hinder hair growth), you'll probably see that your own eyelashes return to good health.

The good news is that if you follow the technician's advice for aftercare, you'll have long, full eyelashes for four to six weeks. A certified and licensed eyelash expert will customize each set of eyelash extensions for each individual client, using between three and five different lengths and up to two different curvatures, Richardson says. But with proper application, eyelash extensions won't ruin your natural lashes, Richardson says. Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent eyelashes that are glued by hand to natural lashes, says Andra Marin, artistic director and expert eyelash stylist at Courtney Akai Lash Boutique in New York.

One of the main reasons women put on eyelash extensions is to make them look fuller even without mascara, so they look natural and don't look lumpy at all. If eyelash extensions are applied correctly, you can maintain them for years, although applying them only takes about an hour when done by an expert eyelash technician. Keep reading to learn all the basics you'll be happy to know (a bar I'd like to know) before an appointment for eyelash extensions. If you feel that mascara isn't enough and you're okay with the additional maintenance and money that eyelash extensions require, it's definitely worth looking for a specialist and having a consultation, in my opinion.

However, there is a very small risk of developing traction alopecia, says Dr. Zaina Al-Mohtaseb, adjunct professor of ophthalmology at Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, where natural eyelashes can fall out as a result of the consistent weight of repeated eyelash extensions. Just be sure to discuss this with a professional eyelash artist to avoid damaging your natural lashes, as applying long, thick extensions to weak natural lashes, or one in the initial phase of a growth cycle, will cause natural lashes to come off prematurely. However, it is necessary to obtain the right extensions to avoid irritation, infection or damage to natural eyelashes.

One of my clients came to the salon a couple of days before she booked the removal of eyelash extensions, worried that she wasn't doing the right thing to remove them and wanted a second opinion. If you really care for them (more on that later), eyelash extensions can last six to eight weeks until they fall out naturally, as your eyelashes usually do. To keep your eyelash extensions in perfect condition, you should gently brush them with a sponge from time to time and then apply a conditioning serum. At The Lash Spa, you can be sure that only professional eyelash artists who have thousands of hours of experience in eyelash extensions will work with you.

Eyelash extensions aren't dangerous or bad as long as the technician follows the right methods and uses the right materials.
